Helping local retreat centre in the amazing Olkhon Island
PROJECT
The aim of this camp organised in cooperation with Russian Presidential Fund and brings the idea to save sustainable development of flora and fauna in the nature of Olkhon Island that is located in Baikal lake. This camp will be run on the Island Olkhon. It is an amazing and picturesque place, where you can see rare plants and animals, which are in Red Book.
WORK
Volunteers need to collect the garbage in some parts of island; to help with building in retreat centre: build the court for yoga and meditation practises, make art and craft by the wood. Typical working hours per day 6 hours per day (for example: 9 -12 & 13-16).
ACCOMADATION
The accommodation conditions are simple in bungalows, comfortable beds are provided. Please bring your sleeping bag. Toilets and showers are available on site. There is a kitchen with all necessary equipment for cooking. Ingredients for food will be provided. Volunteers will be served food cooked by locals for lunches during the week days otherwise it has to be cooked by the volunteers
LOCATION
Retreat center is located in Lake Baikal, Olkhon Island and is the boundary point of the Academician Ridge. Administratively, it belongs to Russia’s Irkutsk Oblast. More information available on the following websites: https://www.russiadiscovery.com/travel-guides/olkhon_island/
TERMINAL
To reach the island, fly to Irkutsk (starts at ~$100 with departure from Moscow), then take a bus or a car to the ship pier in the village of Listvyanka or to the ferry station in the village of Sakhyurta. Note that unlike the ship, the ferry is free of charge and requires no pre-booking. Regular bus fare from Irkutsk is ~700 rubles ($11); the travel time is seven hours. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
You have to bring working clothes, warm clothes as nights can be rather chilly, wet weather clothing, closed boots, sleeping bag, swimwear, towel, inspect spray.
LEISURE TIME
We provide 3 days off to visit Olkhon Island. In the evenings of the working days sauna, camp fires, hiking, etc will be organized.
